My name is Chantel, and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). My journey into psychotherapy has been shaped by my background in Education, and Accessibility Support. I have a passion for understanding the ways our experiences, relationships, environments, and identities shape who we are. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and French Studies, and my Bachelor of Education from Trent University before completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University, where I graduated with Honours.
I have a particular interest in working with people who have experienced severe burnout, lifelong anxiety or depression, or who are navigating a period of change and trying to better understand who they are at this stage of their lives. I believe that therapy should be a space where you can show up as your authentic self: unmasked, comfortable, and free from judgment.
Expertise
I provide individual, couples, and family counselling in a welcoming, sensory-friendly environment. My approach is holistic, creative, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and recovery-oriented. Together, we can explore both current stressors and past experiences while working toward healing, self-understanding, and growth. I draw from evidence-based approaches including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Humanistic Therapy, and Person-Centred Therapy.
I also bring both professional expertise and personal insight to my work with neurodivergent clients. If you are Autistic, have ADHD, BPD, OCD, or are wondering whether you may be neurodivergent, I aim to create a space where you don't have to mask or change who you are to feel accepted. Whether that means using a fidget toy, moving your body, or taking off your shoes during a session, you are welcome just as you are.
Areas of Practice
My areas of interest include severe burnout, anxiety and depression, grief, life transitions, caregiver burnout, traumatic brain injuries, chronic illness and disability, LGBTQIA+ experiences, and neurodivergence.
I have a particular interest in supporting Autistic and ADHD individuals and those exploring their neurodivergent identity. My background and lived experience has given me the opportunity to support people with a variety of developmental, cognitive, and mental health needs.
My goal is to create a therapeutic relationship where you feel heard, respected, and understood. Therapy doesn't have to look one way, we can work together to find an approach that fits you, your needs, and the person you are.
Notable
Outside of the therapy room, you can usually find me in the garden, perfecting the art of dahlia growing.
I love crocheting. My favourite thing to crochet is monster masks.
I have two cats and one dog. I like to refer to our cuddle times as “co-regulating”.
I love puzzle games on my iPad and play every single day to unwind.
I love collecting things: vintage salt and pepper shakers, stuffed monkeys, and alligator figurines (to name a few).
